Angela, this was a strong and wonderful read; the contrast between your experience in grade school and your son's experience was well done...and the conversations between your parents done just right. Loved your voice.
Angela, great piece. It has stayed with me through the day and reminded me of some of my family’s weirder cemetery experiences, e.g. Aunt Martha’s coffin loaded from the church doors into the bed of a red pickup with the six pall-bearers seated on the bed’s shallow walls in the half-mile drive to the cornfield-view cemetery. Your story is loving, specific and educational. It makes me want to visit the long-abandoned graves in a living-room-sized plot a few blocks from our rural hillside. You write so well.
What a great read! Thank you!!
